Pricing Hand Knitting

Custom Hand Knitting is a great way to create Unique items for unforgettable gifting moments.

Please note that we, as Knits4Gifts, are using for hand knitting mostly natural fibers, as the process to create such gifts is elaborate and the market can offer you the option for non-natural fibers already.

We may use some fiber mix containing non-natural fiber in the mix (like acrylic), depending on the item we are knitting.

What do you need to know?

Ordering a Custom Hand Knitted Item

As you might expect, simple items (like hats, mitts) are cheaper to hand knit than shawls or baby blankets/other items. This is mostly because larger, more detailed knitting items require more material and time to be finalized.

Please note that hand knitted items are unique and you will not be able to find them on the market as duplicates.

Custom made listed products

There are some items in our stock (to be made as per your needs) which you can order easily. Those designs are not breaching copyright (this means designers of specific models made it possible for us to knit and using their design).

Designers are spending time/ putting lots of effort/ investing money to have a design proofed and ready to be used by knitters, customers of handmade needs to be aware of this.

Pricing the item

When pricing a hand knitted item, we are considering the following:

• Cost of material used (which can be quoted/requested to customer, by case)

• Cost of Hand Knitting time (this may differ on the fiber thickness used, we are charging between 6-10EUR/hour)

Examples of cost calculations:

• Hand Knitted hat for adult with a medium weight fiber (100g of fiber used – 2 balls of yarn), knitting time 3hrs

  Cost of fiber: 10 -15EUR (as we are using Bio Wool for example, or other special fiber)

  Cost of knitting: 6(EUR) x 3(hrs) = 18EUR (the thicker the fiber, the less is the cost of knitting time/hour)

  This means the total cost of the custom hand knitted item will be at least 25EUR.

• Hand Knitted scarf/shawl with a medium weight fiber (150-200g of fiber used), knitting time 8+ hrs

  Cost of fiber: up to 25EUR (as we are using Merino Wool/Silk for example, or other special fiber)

  Cost of knitting: 8(EUR) x 8(hrs) = 64EUR (the thicker the fiber, the less is the cost of knitting time/hour)

  This means the total cost of the custom hand knitted item will be at least 90EUR.

• Hand Knitted shawl with a lace weight fiber (up to 150g of fiber used), knitting time 12+ hrs

  Cost of fiber: up to 25EUR (as we are using Merino Wool/Silk for example, or other special fiber)

  Cost of knitting: 10(EUR) x 12(hrs) = 120EUR (the thicker the fiber, the less is the cost of knitting time/hour)

  This means the total cost of the custom hand knitted item will be at least 145EUR.

• Hand Knitted baby blanket with a medium weight fiber (up to 300g of fiber used), knitting time 10+ hrs

  Cost of fiber: up to 25EUR (as we are using Merino Wool/Bio Wool for example, or other special fiber)

  Cost of knitting: 8(EUR) x 10(hrs) = 80EUR (the thicker the fiber, the less is the cost of knitting time/hour)

  This means the total cost of the custom hand knitted item will be at least 105EUR.

• Hand Knitted baby ‘boots’ with a medium weight fiber (up to 100g of fiber used), knitting time 5+ hrs

  Cost of fiber: up to 10EUR (as we are using Merino Wool/Bio Wool for example, or other special fiber)

  Cost of knitting: 5(EUR) x 5(hrs) = 25EUR* (*the thicker the fiber, the less is the cost of knitting time/hour)

  This means the total cost of the custom hand knitted item will be at least 35EUR.
